01 / Industry challenges

What the industry faces.

01 / Challenge

Linens washed again and again.

Sheets and pillowcases in hospitals and care facilities are washed often and still need to last.

02 / Challenge

Peace of mind for families.

Products designed with both the people receiving care and their families in mind.

03 / Challenge

Wording limits in Japan.

Under Japanese regulations, medical claims and claims about acting on germs are not used. Brands describe the material and its functions as marketed in Japan instead.

Telling the material story with Inside.

Wording that explains the material in brand terms, within regulatory limits.

Recovery wear (notified in Japan)

The five functions of GranovaQ, as marketed in Japan — antibacterial and odor-resistant, antiviral, anti-mite, anti-mold and far-infrared emission — are explained on the Functions page. They describe the material itself, as marketed in Japan. They are not claims that any product protects people from bacteria, viruses or disease. Claims that may be made for products sold outside Japan depend on local regulations (for example, the U.S. EPA and the EU Biocidal Products Regulation). Please consult us for each market.

06 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Q. What can we say about the material for hospital textiles?
A. Under Japanese regulations, medical claims and claims about acting on germs are not used; we describe the functions of the material only. As marketed in Japan, the material's functions are described as antibacterial (inhibits the growth of specific bacteria on the fiber) and antiviral (reduces specific viruses that adhere to the fiber). Outside Japan, claims depend on local regulations — please consult us about wording for each product.
Q. Can it withstand commercial laundering (high temperature, hypochlorite)?
A. Because it is kneaded into the fiber, it is designed to hold up to commercial laundering better than surface finishes. Specific durability tests are carried out jointly before adoption.
Q. Can it be used for home care?
A. Yes. We expect it to be used across textiles for home care, such as sheets, pajamas and towels.
Q. Have medical institutions purchased it?
A. It has reached facilities through apparel and bedding products. Direct supply to medical institutions is a focus area for the future.
